Sunday Morning Prayer: Start Your Day of Worship With God
There’s something different about a Sunday morning, isn’t there? Even the quiet feels different. Psalm 118:24 declares, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it,” and while that’s true every single day, Sunday carries its own particular weight. It’s the day the church has set apart for generations to gather, to worship, to remember who God is together rather than alone. Hebrews 10:25 reminds us “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,” and whether you’re getting ready for a full sanctuary, a small home fellowship, or simply this quiet moment alone with God before your day begins, this morning belongs to Him in a special way.

2. A Prayer to Prepare Your Heart for Worship
Psalm 51:10 asks, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Before we enter into worship, whether at church or in our own quiet space, we ask God to prepare us inwardly.
- Father, prepare my heart to worship You fully today, free from distraction and free from a wandering mind.
- Lord, clear away anything from this past week that might keep me from worshipping wholeheartedly, stress, offense, or distraction.
- Father, help me to come to worship not just going through the motions, but genuinely engaged with You.
- Lord, soften my heart toward You this morning, so that whatever is sung, read, or preached today finds fertile ground in me.

3. A Prayer for Your Time at Church or in Fellowship
Matthew 18:20 promises, “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Wherever you’ll worship today, God has promised His presence there.
- Father, be present in a real and tangible way in my church service today, or wherever I gather to worship You.
- Lord, speak clearly through the worship, the message, and the fellowship of other believers this morning.
- Father, let me leave today’s gathering different than I arrived, encouraged, challenged, or comforted in exactly the way I need.
- Lord, bless my pastor and worship leaders as they prepare to lead today, giving them clarity and anointing for what they’re about to deliver.
- Father, connect me with someone today who needs encouragement, or let me be encouraged by someone else, according to Your perfect timing.
4. A Prayer for Your Family as You Worship Together
Joshua 24:15 declares, “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Sunday often means gathering as a family, and we bring that time before God too.
- Father, unite my family in worship this morning, whether we’re getting ready together or worshipping in different places.
- Lord, remove any tension or rushing that sometimes creeps into Sunday mornings, and replace it with peace as we prepare.
- Father, let my children see genuine worship in me, not performance, but real relationship with You.
- Lord, protect our time together today from unnecessary conflict or distraction.
- Father, let this be a day that strengthens our family’s faith, individually and together.
5. A Prayer to Carry Worship Beyond This Morning
Romans 12:1 calls us to present our bodies “a living sacrifice,” reminding us that worship isn’t confined to a single hour or a single building. We ask God to help this Sunday’s worship shape the rest of our week.
- Father, let what I experience in worship today not end when the service ends.
- Lord, help me to carry this same posture of gratitude and reverence into tomorrow, and every day this week.
